How to Evaluate Fine Art Jewelry

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Learn about how to evaluate fine art jewelry so that you have a clear understanding of exactly what you are purchasing. When evaluating fine art jewelry one of the tools you’ll need is a loupe. This is a small magnifying glass that jewelers use in order to closely examine the stones and metals for flaws. Most jewelers use a standard loupe of 10x triplet loupe because anything higher makes it impossible to use.

One of the first things you should do is prepare an area that will be used exclusively for examining your pieces. When learning how to evaluate fine art jewelry, it is critical that you have a good amount of light. To get as close to natural sunlight as possible, it is best to use a professional diamond lamp. If you don’t have one available, a desk lamp will work fine.

Determine which eye is your seeing eye and then pick up your jeweler’s loupe with the same hand as the eye you are using. For example, if you have established your left eye as your seeing eye, then hold the loupe in your left hand firmly between your thumb and middle finger. Keep the loupe between 1 and 2 inches from your eye and hold the piece you are examining about one inch from the loupe. Look for flaws in the stone, check its color and examine any defects in the metal. Use this quick lesson in learning how to evaluate fine art jewelry to determine the value of all your pieces

Bernardine Fine Art Jewelry

Ohio jewelry maker Nancy Bernardine handcrafts bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants, pins, rings using gold, silver and gemstones.

She works with a wide variety of gemstones, from agates to variscite, a relatively rate phosphate mineral that’s sometimes confused with the greener forms of turquoise.

Variscite is claimed to balance the central nervous system and ease depression, fear, worry, anxiety and impatience.

Bernardine also works with ammolite, which is mineralized remains of ammonites, the precursor of the nautilus, which swam the oceans from the Paleozoic to the end of the Cretacious era. That’s 65 to 70 million years ago.

The Roman historian, Pliny the Elder, regarded ammonite as the holiest of stones for its ability to summon prophetic dreams, but it wasn’t until 1981 that ammolite was recognized by the International Colored Gemstone Commission as a new organic gemstone.

Fossilized ammonites are found all over the world, but gem-quality ammolite is only found in southern Alberta, Canada.

Bernardine also works with larimar, a rare form of pectolite, that’s only found in the Dominican Republic. Larimar’s blue color often causes confusion with turquoise.

Larimar represents peace, clarity, healing and love, and is alleged to stimulate the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras to promote inner wisdom.

Tanzanite is also included in Bernardine’s repertoire. Purplish in color, tanzanite is only found in East Africa. In 2002, the American Gem Trade Association added it to the official birthstone list for December. Tanzanite is also suggested as the gemstone for the 24th wedding anniversary.

I’ve Never Met Someone Who Doesn’t Enjoy Fine Art Jewelry

[Facebook] [Twitter]

I honestly cannot even begin to explain how happy I am that Spring is here. By chance, if you think I am strange for bringing up this topic, just stop and reflect on a moment about how much nicer it is to walk outside in the morning when it’s warm than when it’s cold. In addition to the wonderful weather, the reason that I like the Spring season so much is because it is my Mom’s birthday.

As a result of my Mom being important to me, I actually enjoy the fact that I get to go out and for a birthday present for her. When this time of the year arrives, I always make sure that I find time in my schedule to go to the shopping center that is approximately twenty minutes from my home. I have to work during the day, so the time when I always go shopping is in the evening (which is nice because there is no rush).

I usually try to keep to myself when I am shopping, but because the clerk was so sociable during my most recent shopping trip, we ended up having a conversation for at least twenty minutes. Although I will admit I spent a good amount of time talking, I never forgot that my primary goal was to find a birthday present. It took some time, but I eventually came across a beautiful piece of fine art jewelry. Since I already had a box and wrapping paper in my closet at home, it was easy to get the piece of fine art jewelry ready for my Mom’s birthday. When I went to my Mom’s celebration a week and a half ago, I was so pleased that she told me multiple times how much she liked what I got her.

I Like Giving People Gifts They Love

[Facebook] [Twitter]

I know plenty of people who do not enjoy getting gifts for other people. Now, it’s not because they are greedy or anything like that; they are simply very analytical people, and it’s hard for them to justify going out and trying to find a gift that means something to someone when they could simply write them a check for the same amount of money. While I understand why these people feel this way and don’t hold it against them at all, I am definitely not wired that way.

Instead of being extremely analytical, I do the majority of my decision making based on my feelings. Because of this, I take no offense to being called a really emotional person (however, let’s just be clear that I’m not the type of girl who cries all the time). However, I can definitely read people, and I feel like this is a very useful skill.

Since emotions are important to me, I like buying gifts that make people genuinely happy. For example, I recently went shopping for a birthday gift for my friend. Since she loves art, when I came across a set of fine art jewelry, I knew it was going to be a gift that she truly loved!

A Couple of Unique Gifts

[Facebook] [Twitter]

I really love the group of people that make up my closest set of friends. Although we have all only known each other for a couple of years, we have gotten extremely close in this relatively short amount of time. The reason that we have all gotten so close in this amount of time is because we are all in college right now, which means this is our first experience being away from home and living on our own. Because we are all living together (or really close to each other) and spend so much of our time together, it really doesn’t take a long amount of time to develop deep bonds with each other.

The best thing about my friends is that they all have such strong personalities. I don’t like people who simply accept the status quo, and this is definitely not an attitude that any of my friends have. Because they all have their own interests and passions, I was able to buy some really cool Christmas gifts this year. For example, I will be giving a piece of fine art jewelry that I picked up to one of my friends, because she is not only passionate about art, but is also an amazing painter herself.
